Quick Tip Tuesday: Shelf Styling!

I love the look of built-ins and open shelving. They are such a great way to add character to your home. However, they are also often the scene of #DecorGoneWrong!

Fear not, friend. I'm here for you! Part of what I do is steer you away from making tragic design mistakes!

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you decorate so that you can create perfectly styled shelves:

1. Clean everything off. Just like last week's tip, we need to see the clean open space to visualize before we start.

2. Lay out everything you may want to use on your shelves. Always "shop your house" before you go out and buy things for your shelves! I like to see all of my options in front of me before I start. Then I put them into groups by size/type/color.

3. Layer and balance. Start with larger items first and layer in your medium and smaller pieces.

4. Work in groups of 2 or 3. Creating small vignettes is a great way to keep a balanced look. Don't overload your shelves! Space is GOOD and will be the difference between a cleanly cultivated look and a cluttered mess!

5. Step back and make adjustments as needed. It usually takes me a few times to get it just right. Take your time!

As always, if you get stuck - you know where to find me!

Happy shelf styling!
