Military Life: Telling Your Story

The best thing about your home, no matter where that may be, is who you share it with and how you tell your story. The thought of starting over again (and again and again) can be overwhelming, but stop for a moment and look at it as an opportunity. Your new duty station is an opportunity to add another chapter to your story!

We often move in and look around at blank white or beige walls and feel…lonely and quite frankly, bored. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. This is your next chapter. That white wall is the first blank page and YOU get to decide what happens next. In a lifestyle where most of your major life-changing decisions are made for you, this is a wonderful thing!

So, I encourage you to get personal. The family photos you had taken in each place? Hang them and make a gallery wall! That beautiful hand-made quilt you were given by a dear friend from duty stations past? Display it. These are not just things. They are part of your story and looking around your home seeing those memories can be so good for your soul. They can remind you of where you’ve been, what you’ve learned, and where you’re going. They are a source of comfort. They are a source of strength. They are you. And you? You’re pretty amazing.
